 Wadi Rum:

Otherwise known as Valley of the     Moon, the landscape of Wadi Rum with its immensity, colour and awe-inspiring shapes creates an almost supernatural atmosphere. The setting for the film Lawrence of Arabia and the actual location where T.E. Lawrence set his camp, whose book “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom” was named after the seven natural columns varying in height located in route to Wadi Rum.  Bedouin camps are evident in the Wadi, which is still home to a number of Bedouin families, who welcome visitors with the hospitality and generosity that Bedouins are so famous for.

After dinner drive to Petra for overnight in Movenpick Hotel.

Mukawir – Mount Nebo – Madaba – Amman City tour

Mukawir (Machareus)

Modern Mukawir is Machaerus of biblical times. At the time of the Maccabean Revolt, the Hasmonaean dynasty had set up a powerful Jewish state east and west of the Jordan River. They built a number of forts to protect their territory, one of which was Machaerus in the east, another was Masada in the west. Herod the Great later captured this region, and launched an ambitious construction campaign that included a great palace at Machaerus. After Herod the Great died, Machaerus passed on to his son Herod Antipas.

This site is best known as the place where Herod had John the Baptist beheaded, as recounted in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. The people of the region considered John the Baptist a holy man and prophet, but John was preaching against Herod Antipas and Herodias, because their marriage violated the law. Herod arrested John, imprisoned him in Mukawir, but did not kill him for fear of retribution from the people. Later, during a celebration at the palace, Herodias’ daughter Salome danced for Herod, who was so pleased that he promised to give Salome anything she wanted. Herodias, angry at John’s condemnation, prompted her daughter to ask for John’s head, and Herod felt obliged to honor his word.

08:30h. Transfer to Mount Nebo for a visit

is the mountain where Moses was allowed to see the Holy Land… and not allowed to enter it. Nowadays the mountain is a memorial site.  Here is the “Church of Moses”, built by the first Christians.  Ever since the first days of Christianity this mountain has been a holy place and a destination for pilgrimage. Like Moses, you can have a great view over Jordan, the Dead Sea and Israel.  When the weather is clear, you should even be able to see Jerusalem, which is about 60 kilometers away.

Transfer to Madaba for a visit (15 minutes drive), then Proceed to Mukawir .

Madaba South of Amman proudly stands the “City of Mosaics”, Madaba, perched on an archaeological site with more than 4000 years of history buried beneath it.  The quality and quantity of mosaic flooring has made Madaba one of the most prominent cities in the world for mosaics. St. George’s Church houses the world famous mosaic floor depicting a large mosaic map of Palestine.  Centrally located on this mosaic floor is a detailed map of Jerusalem as it was during the sixth century AD.  At the Church of the Apostles, at the southern entrance of the city, is a mosaic floor attributed to the craftsman Salamanios, depicting the Sea, with the central figure of a woman encircled with a selection

AMMAN

The capital, Amman, known in history as Rabbath-Ammon and in Greco-Roman times as Philadelphia. High above the city, at the ancient Citadel, study the traces of Amman’s many lives: the regal columns of a roman temple in silhouette against the sky, the elegant capitals of a Byzantine church, endlessly inventive carvings in the Umayyad Palace, fascinating displays in the Archaeological Museum, and digs and ruins everywhere you step. At the foot of the Citadel, take a seat in the Roman Theatre, a deep-sided bowl carved into the hill and still used for cultural events. 

Transfer to Amman for overnight in Amman Hotel.
