09:00h: Start the day with a city tour of Amman to include the Citadel, the Archaeological Museum, the Roman Theatre, and the Folklore Museum.
AMMAN
The capital, Amman, known in history as Rabbath-Ammon and in Greco-Roman times as Philadelphia. High above the city, at the ancient Citadel, study the traces of Amman’s many lives: the regal columns of a roman temple in silhouette against the sky, the elegant capitals of a Byzantine church, endlessly inventive carvings in the Umayyad Palace, fascinating displays in the Archaeological Museum, and digs and ruins everywhere you step. At the foot of the Citadel, take a seat in the Roman Theatre, a deep-sided bowl carved into the hill and still used for cultural events.
Back to your bus and drive north to Jerash (the drive takes around 1 hour drive).
Lunch: Arrive to Jerash and set menu lunch at the Green Valley Restaurant at Jerash.
JERASH:
Second only to Petra in tourist appeal, the ancient city of Jerash in remarkable for its long chain of human occupation. Here at a well-watered site in the hills of Gilead, remains from Neolithic times have been found, as well as Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad and others. Jerash’s golden age, however arrived with Roman rule. Today it is acknowledged as one of the best-preserved province cities of the Roman Empire. Jerash was a member of the Decapolis, a dynamic commercial league of ten Greco-Roman Cities.
When Emperor Hadrian visited Jerash in 129 AD, it was already thriving. To honour its guest, the city raised a Triumphal Arch, just one part of massive building programme. Today you can walk beneath the imposing south gate and then make your way up the ‘Street of Columns’ – the Roman Cardo- Running 600 meters north from the Oval Plaza. As you step over the tracks of chariot wheels, still visible in the paving stones, imagine prosperous citizens window-shopping beneath a covered sidewalk.
Back to your bus and drive to Amman (the drive takes around 1 hour).

09:00h. Board your vehicle and drive to Mt. Nebo for a visit (around 1 hour drive).
MOUNT NEBO:
Mount Nebo is the mountain where Moses was allowed to see the Holy Land… and not allowed to enter it. Nowadays the mountain is a memorial site. Here is the “Church of Moses”, built by the first Christians. Ever since the first days of Christianity this mountain has been a holy place and a destination for pilgrimage. Like Moses, you can have a great view over Jordan, the Dead Sea and Israel. When the weather is clear, you should even be able to see Jerusalem, which is about 60 kilometres away.
11:00h. Continue to Madaba (15 minutes drive from Mt. Nebo).
MADABA:
South of Amman proudly stands the “City of Mosaics”, Madaba, perched on an archaeological site with more than 4000 years of history buried beneath it. The quality and quantity of mosaic flooring has made Madaba one of the most prominent cities in the world for mosaics. St. George’s Church houses the world famous mosaic floor depicting a large mosaic map of Palestine. Centrally located on this mosaic floor is a detailed
map of Jerusalem as it was during the sixth century AD. At the Church of the Apostles, at the southern entrance of the city, is a mosaic floor attributed to the craftsman Salamanios, depicting the Sea, with the central figure of a woman encircled with a selection of creatures, vegetation and an inscription.
Kerak:
Kerak lies about 150 km south of Amman. It is famous of its crusader fortress in the center of underground galleries, rooms and secret passageways and its thick defensive walls pierced by narrow arrow slits where crusader archers held out bravely but in vain for over 100 years. It was the crusaders who made Kerak famous. Payen Le Boutellier, the lord of Montreal, built the fortress in 1142. He made Kerak the new capital of the province because it was situated on the king’s highway, where it could control all traffic from north and south.

PETRA:
08:00h. Full day visit Petra
Start the visit with a horse ride from the main gate of Petra to the entrance of the old city (around 800 meters ride).
Then walk on foot along the « Siq » to visit the rose-red city of Petra.
The ancient city of Petra was built from 800 BC to 100 AD by Nabetean Arabs. In this era Petra was a fortress, carved out of craggy rocks in an area, which was virtually inaccessible. In the first and second century, after the Romans took over, the city reached the peak of its fame. Petra covers an area of about 100 square km, where over 800 monuments can be found. When shipping slowly displaced caravan routes, the city’s importance gradually dwindled; it fell into disuse and was lost to the world until 1812, when it was re-discovered by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. Nowadays Petra is Jordan’s number 1 tourist attraction, known as the “rose-red city half as old as time”. The Khazneh (the Treasury), starred in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
14:00h. Transfer to Wadi Rum for a sunset 4 X 4 ride 2& Half hours.
WADI RUM:
Otherwise known as Valley of the Moon, the landscape of Wadi Rum with its immensity, colour and awe-inspiring shapes creates an almost supernatural atmosphere. The setting for the film Lawrence of Arabia and the actual location where T.E. Lawrence set his camp, whose book “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom” was named after the seven natural columns varying in height located in route to Wadi Rum. Bedouin camps are evident in the Wadi, which is still home to a number of Bedouin families, who welcome visitors with the hospitality and generosity that Bedouins are so famous for.

AQABA
Breakfast: buffet breakfast at Bedouin Camp.

Orientation
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan lies in the heart of the Middle East. Jordan is bordered by the West Bank and Israel from the west, Syria from the north, Iraq from the northwest, Saudi Arabia from the southeast and Egypt from the southwest.
Time zone:
Jordan is two hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) during winter, and three hours ahead during summer, from May 1st till October 1st.
Climate:
Hot and dry summers with cool evenings. The Jordan Valley below sea level is warm during winter and extremely hot in summer. Rain falls between November and March, while colder weather conditions occur in December / January.
Required clothing: Lightweight cottons and linens are advised between May and September. Warmer clothes are necessary for winter and cool summer evenings. Rainwear is needed from November to April.
Visas:
All nationalities require tourist visas for Jordan. A visa can also be obtained at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport, or any other main border; payment must be in local currency. Group visa can be arranged free of charge for groups of 5 adults and over arriving together and staying in Jordan a minimum of 2 nights, provided you send us a visa list with full passport details prior group arrival.
Departure tax:
A departure tax of currently JOD. 5 per person (around US$ 7.50) are paid at all borders when departing Jordan and this applies on both groups and individuals.
Language:
The official language of Jordan is Arabic. English is widely spoken, especially in the cities, and many Jordanians have traveled or been educated abroad. French, German, Italian and Spanish are also spoken but to a lesser extent.
Currency:
The local currency is the Jordanian Dinar, or “JD”, which is divided into 1000 fils. The current exchange rate is US $100.00 is equal to JD 71.000.
Credit Cards:
American Express, Visa, and MasterCard are widely accepted, whilst Access and Diners Club have more limited use. Check with your credit card company for details of merchant acceptability.
Tipping:
Tipping is never required but always appreciated. In hotels and restaurants, 10% may be added to the bill, but a small tip for the waiters is appropriate. For hotel bellmen and porters, ½ or 1 JOD, or US$ 1 is customary. In taxis, pay the nearest round figure to the price on the meter. Visitors would normally consider tipping their guide, driver on tours, hotel staff, and waiters in restaurants; however, tips for Porterage in airports and hotels are always covered by The Driver for VIP Services staff.
Photography:
If you are taking photographs of local people, always ask their permission beforehand. Your guide can assist you in this. Do not take photographs of military installations or airports. Film is readily available in all tourist areas. It is advisable to carry your camera in a dust-proof bag.
Electricity:
The electrical system is based on 220 AC volts, 50 cycles, and requires rounded two prong wall plugs. Visitors from the United States of America will need a transformer; most hotels can provide one.
Health:
No inoculations are needed for visitors to Jordan. During your stay, it is preferable to drink only bottled water, although it is all right to shower and brush your teeth using tap water. Ice used in hotels is purified so it is safe to drink.
Shopping:
Jordan is a shoppers’ paradise offering hand-blown glassware, inlaid boxes, silver, gold, jewellery, brass, copper, carpets, antiques, leather wear, spices, perfumes, alabaster, embroidered covers, wall hangings and furniture. It is prohibited to export any ancient artifacts. Be careful when investing in “genuine antiques” which in many cases are excellent forgeries.
Dress Code:
Jordan is primarily a Muslim country, although the freedom of all religions is protected. Revealing clothing is never appropriate and conservative clothing is advisable for both men and women in downtown Amman and in rural areas. Topless sunbathing is prohibited and one-piece swimsuits are preferred, although two-piece swimsuits are acceptable in hotel pools or beaches. Evenings can be cool in summer, so a sweater or a shawl is advisable.
